Life has its own way. Some go the way you expect, other don’t and sometimes, it’ all for the better.
I found a new job. I had been looking for quite a long time, being dissatisfied with my current job and wanting to go oversea, Japan being only one of the choices and clearly the most difficult to reach.
Somehow, I found a job in China.
And wish to learn Chinese.
I began learning Chinese some years ago while working on a project delivered here. But being far from it and not in front of the customer didn’t provide much opportunities to practice. And my girlfriend gave me plenty of good reasons not to study.
Today, I have no choice but to learn. I have 2 month to learn some basic elements.
Where it’s getting tricky is knowing that:
- I must learn Cantonese Chinese but began Mandarin Chinese back then. Study material will be harder to find (only one method available in my vicinity, mostly conversation books found on Amazon),
- Cantonese may be the common language in the area but in everyday life, a specific dialect is used and I have no way to find material for this one,
- As it is still Mainland China, I’m sure I’ll have to learn some Mandarin Chinese someday,
- I don’t want to quit learning Japanese, especially now that I’m closer
I don’t know how long it will take but I’ll learn!
